Review: Steampod 4

As far as hair tools go, I’m a loyal GHD fan. I have had my pair for a number of years, and they are still going strong. They are a great brand, that truly last a long time. That being said, the last couple of months of straightening my hair, I felt as though my hair just wasn’t looking great. My GHD’s were coming to the end of their useful life, and I started thinking of buying a new pair or trying something new. Truth be told, it’s not just my straightner’s that I think have been the issue, my hairdryer is also very much in need of an upgrade. But I’ll save that for another day!

Before jumping into buying a new straightner, I took a lot of time to research and check out reviews. If I’m going to spend over £100 on this, I really didn’t want to waste my money. I checked out blogs, youtube videos, tik tok reviews, everything! The most helpful reviews being from the youtube channel Julissa Guillen. I have been a long time viewer of hers, and really appreciate her honesty. The fact that she has somewhat of a similar hair texture to my own naturally, is also a really helpful factor, as I can see roughly what the styling tools she tries will do for me.

After watching her review of the Steampod I was hooked, I kept returning to her video over the course of several months, still just ever so slightly hesitant to take the plunge. I did contemplate purchasing a Dyson back in the day, but I didn’t think it would work well enough, again this is after extensive research.

Finally, I took the plunge and purchased the Steampod. I was nervous, as it is over £200 that I did not want to waste. However, after my first use I was in love! I did dry my hair straight with a hair dryer first, and then used the Steampod over it. As you can see, the result speaks for itself. So much so, I have had so many people telling me how healthy my hair looks, that it’s shiny, and just in great condition.

This is not to say the GHD’s can’t give the same result, but when my particular GHD device is over 10 years old at least, it just doesn’t quite work like it used to.

I’m also someone that is fairly low maintenance with my hair. I dye it myself, I hate styling it most of the time as it does not hold well, and when you live in a windy city like I do, there really isn’t much point. For me, I either wear my hair curly, in it’s natural state, or I will straighten it. If I am wearing my hair straight, then I usually will dry it once a week into a straight style. I begin by using a hairdryer on my washed curly hair. And this part really takes some motivation for me as I really need to invest in a new hairdryer.

After using Steampod

Although, as mentioned I still need to grab a new Hair dryer for sure, this Steampod more than makes up for the shortcomings of my hair dryer. After drying my hair, I then use the steampod to actually straighten it fully and style it. I have also used the Steampod directly my curly hair too. This also works really great, but I definitely prefer using them more as a styling tool, after drying it.

Honestly, the first time I used the steampod, my jaw was on the floor. It worked so much better than even I had thought it would! It’s really easy to use, and worked so quick. Although I don’t think they are a requirement, I did also use two styling items from Loreal which are the Replenishing smoothing cream and the Protective Smoothing serum. They seem to have since been combined into the Professional Smoothing treatment.

Some important details for the Steampod are below:

  • As the name suggests, the steampod uses steam… therefore you do need to fill the steampod with water. Now in doing my research, I read that using Demineralised water was best for using the device. Therefore, I have only used this so far. I ordered a bottle online and it was very cheap, and I have barely used half the bottle after a good few months of use. I don’t know if tap water would be fine, but personally I stick to the recommended.

  • The steampod comes with a few different combs that you can attach for use. I have so far, stuck with the original comb, but I also noted that in her review Julissa took out the comb altogether. This might be a good idea, if you have very thick hair.

  • There a three heat settings, which is also great, as you can control just how much heat you want on your hair. When intially drying/ styling my hair I normally use the highest setting. But any other time, just going over my hair again in the week, I will use the lower heat.

  • With the Steampod 4, You can also remove the white caps and also use this device to curl your hair. I have only does this once myself, and it worked great. But given the thickness of the tool, I would maybe suggest a pair of gloves that protect your hand from the heat, just as I think it would be easy to burn yourself, with the shape and size of the device. (That might just be me worrying, as I did not hurt myself, but it would be possible).

Overall, I have no complaints with this device. I really think it is worth the money, and I do not say that lightly, as someone who will always think these purchases over for a few weeks or months when it is a lot of money.

If you are looking for something new and are able to invest in something a little on the pricier side, I really do highly recommend this tool. Especially for us curly hair girls!

Love
