Why Natural ?
I often prefer natural makeup for my day-to-day look, especially when in work. During the winter in particular I seem to spend a little extra time in bed in the morning, so lately I have been in need of a quick beauty routine to get me out the door. I love natural makeup for so many reasons, but the main one being that it reminds you that you should always let your natural beauty shine through. I love seeing gorgeous over the top eye-makeup on instragram and envying the Ru Paul’s drag race contestants when they are painted for the gods, but I equally love enhancing what I have without overpowering it.
Of course I think my girl Meghan (AKA- The Duchess of Sussex) may also have played a hand in the popularity of going back to basics and a natural look, ever since her stunning wedding makeup! That day and let’s face it most days in general she really showcases her gorgeous features and I love the message that it shows other women to do the same.
When trying out a more natural look, I think the base is probably the most important step in the routine, and also the hardest to get right. When I think natural makeup, it is all about enhancing your natural beauty and letting it shine. A natural make up look isn’t necessarily about covering every blemish, but just giving you a little extra confidence as you head out for the day. The Dior backstage foundation is light, gentle on the skin and gives you a beautiful soft amount of coverage.
I prefer using a foundation brush to apply this, as I only want the smallest amount to give my skin a boost and a light coverage. I have used the shade 4WO – Warm olive. There is a great range of shades available and I found it easy to match my shade. With such a lightweight foundation you are able to apply this quickly, so this is perfect on days you are in a rush.
What I also love is that with so many shades, you will always find a perfect match, whether your skin is feeling a little pale in the winter, or you have gorgeous tan from a summer holiday you can mix and match for any occasion.
Once you have your beautiful base, we then need to warm up the face and define your features a little. The contour palette is perfect for adding a little bronze to your skin and definition. It’s also a perfect size for popping it in your makeup bag, so you can use it throughout the day. This comes with four great and versatile colours and a little really goes a long way. This palette requires a very light touch when applying, as too much applied means you will have a not so lovely dark patch to blend away (Believe me). I like to use a fluffy brush to apply this, just pinching the bristles when applying my contour. I also used the darkest shade to lightly fill in my brows to keep the natural feel of this look.
Although the palette comes in one shade set, this is universal for all skin tones. I really enjoy using this palette and the packaging really does make it feel a little extra special.
The glow face palette is the perfect finishing touch for this look. What I love about it, is that you could easily use this palette for a very glam look, as well as just adding a subtle touch. I used the gorgeous blush for my cheeks, this does have a slight shimmer to it, but it really just brightens up your face perfectly. Again this is a versatile palette that is universal for all skin tones. There is something for everyone on this palette; from the lightest most gorgeous bright highlighter, to the deliciously dark tone. All of these shades are shimmery, stunning on the skin and really do give you the perfect glow.
The shimmer may seem quite daunting at first to some, but once it is actually applied it really does blend well. Lastly I finished the look with some mascara and a little lip glow.
Overall, I really enjoyed using these products, and I adore the finished look. Of course there are times when I will always want a fully glam look with smoky eyes and red lipstick, but for an everyday look I love the Dior Backstage range, and I would really recommend these products.
