Little Love Book Club: The woman in the window

It’s book club time again, and time for a very different book genre then I’m used to.

This time we decided to go for a thriller, and we were a little delayed in actually getting started this month! But sometimes life happens. I really didn’t know what to expect from reading a thriller, as I cannot watch horror or thriller films. The woman in the window, didn’t give much away from the synopsis, but it was intriguing enough for me to want to give it a try.

I found the book quite hard to get into, to be quite honest I didn’t really take to the main character Anna at all. Whilst most books do take a chapter or two before you find the rhythm of it, I wasn’t eagerly picking up the book until the mystery really got going and even then Anna wasn’t any less annoying. This is not to say there was bad writing involved, but I just don’t think Anna is very likeable. Vanille and I both felt quite similar in that she wasn’t doing herself any favours to be liked. However, I do think this is a conscious decision so that we as the reader, question Anna and what she thinks she sees in the window.

Once this event occurs, Anna becomes obsessed with proving what she saw to be true. Though I didn’t like how easily people seemed to doubt her, I also had no idea who to believe. I love as we get further into the story it did start to make me feel a little scared in the same way a thriller film starts to make you feel nervous. In fact Vanille actually confessed that she let out a little scream when reading one part. I was really surprised that a book could have this reaction, and it definitely made me want to try more thriller novels in the future. I did really enjoy this book by the end, but I felt that it took a little too long to get to the main plot.

What I loved about it, is that you really don’t know what is true, who to believe and what is coming next. I loved the twists that we were presented with and found myself holding my breathe at some points. Overall, I did really enjoy the book and I am really excited to try a few more thriller books in the future.

Book rating – 6/10

Recommend – Yes

Read again –  Perhaps, but not I know the truth it would be far less exciting a second time
