Unwinding after a bad day

Lately I have arrived home after a day at work, needing more then ever to forget the last 8 hours, to truly relax, unwind and de-stress. We all have those times when the day just doesn’t go to plan, the phone won’t stop ringing and you have an overwhelming amount of emails to reply to, or the day just simply doesn’t go your way. It might not be work related at all, sometimes the smallest thing can bring us down, waiting for a reply from an important text, exciting plans being cancelled last minute or just waking up not feeling your best. It’s easy for one bad day to turn into a few, and before you know it, Friday comes and you are left with no energy and feeling deflated.

So how do we stop this bad morning turning into a terrible day? Or even worse, a terrible week? These are just a few ways I like to try and take worries and stress away and think more positive.

Exercise

I know, after a busy and chaotic day, exercise may not be high on your list, but it truly can turn your mood around. There have been times when I arrive home from work, wanting nothing more then to crash on to the couch and relax. But after throwing on some workout gear, picking a Tone it up workout and sweating it out, your body not only gets a nice endorphin boost, but it also allows you to sweat out the stresses and frustrations of the day.

Do what makes you happy

For me, a great way to unwind after a long day is to totally switch off from my own worries or thoughts. Some days this means zoning out on Netflix, but the best way, I find is to curl up with a good book. Reading helps me to unwind because I completely immerse myself into the story I’m reading, imagining what the characters look like, sound like and the environment they are in, are all ways that help me to forget about my own worries.

Turn off your phone

Sometimes the best thing to do after a hectic day is switch off your phone, take some time for you and not let anymore phone calls or emails get in the way of your down time. Switching off the tech for a while is sometimes all you need in order to chill out, without fear of being disturbed.

A glass of wine

Now to go along with reading that book, I always find a lovely glass of wine can be a great way to unwind. Definitely not one to use as a daily way to relax, but after a long week a glass of wine or whatever your drink of choice, can be a great way to truly let the past few days slip from your mind.

Get a good night’s sleep

We often take for granted how good, a night of rest can be for us. I can struggle to switch off fully sometimes, but whenever I have a great night sleep, I always feel ready to take on a new day. I have even recently started using a pillow spray to further encourage a restful night and relaxed mind. This feather and down spray has a beautiful lavender scent and has really improved my sleeping habits lately.

These are just a few ways I like to unwind and forget about the day. What do you do to relax?

Love
