Think Positive: Goals for finishing 2016

It’s almost unbelievable how quick the last 6 months have gone. I don’t know how the year goes by so quickly all of sudden. As December is nearly over too, I couldn’t help but start to reflect on the year.

2016 as a whole, has been a mixed bag for the world. A lot of famous faces have left us, an interesting Presidential race took place, and I have to say, the majority of people are feeling a little deflated after this year. On a more personal level, I feel like this has been a good year. As I am in my mid twenties, I know that these are the years when you start to set goals in place, and really decide what you want out of life. There have certainly been a few bumps in the road, but I am so thankful for the journey 2016 has taken me on so far.

This is the year I have finally taken a flight again after 5 years, and discovered that a slight fear of aeroplanes can’t prevent me from new experiences. The year my blog has truly educated me far more than I expected, and changed my outlook on so many things, given me passion and motivation. This year I feel like I am on the right path for what I want, even when at times I have been a little unsure about the future. So with the end of 2016 fast approaching, I wanted to set a few goals to make the rest of the year the best it can be, and heading into 2017.

Spend more time with family

I always feel like I am busy. Busy working, busy catching up with the friends I didn’t have time to catch up with the previous month. Just busy with life, obligations and hobbies. I still live at home, which sometimes means you forget to appreciate being with your family. My parents are always there, I can see them anytime! But god forbid something bad should happen, I really need to remind myself to spend time with my family, before my sister moves house, before I eventually move too, you really don’t know what you have until it’s gone. I want to make sure I spend time with my family, and not just sit with them whilst I distract myself with YouTube videos, and my parents watch Eastenders.

Take more time for me

Going along with always feeling busy, I really want to make sure I remember to have some time for myself. There are many weeks, when even on my days off, I don’t stop moving. Whether it’s taking a hot yoga class, having a nap in the afternoon, or just reading a great book with a glass of wine, these little moments to myself are amazing, and I definitely need to remind myself to be a little selfish sometimes and focus on me.

Don’t stress Christmas

As beautiful a time as the festive season is, it can also be a very stressful time. You put pressure on yourself to get everyone you love the best present possible; worry that it doesn’t look like enough, or that you haven’t spent enough. Family arguments happen on christmas day, and before you know it the stress of the day means you end up wanting to head to bed early. Christmas is not about the perfect gift. It is a time to enjoy with family and friends, take a break from work if you are lucky and relax. Last year I took it upon myself to make my mum a quilt! Hopefully this year I find a less stressful gift and enjoy the season for what it is.

Reflect

Too often we see January 1st as a chance to start over. I like that it is a positive time for people to want to make new promises or resolutions. But sometimes we also like to block out the previous year a little too much. I want to reflect on what I’ve learned this year, and take that with me into 2017.

Celebrate

Whether this has been the hardest year of your life, or the best year of your life, December is a great time to celebrate. It is a fun month; old friends want to reunite, family gatherings and work parties all come together with the aim of celebrating the year that has passed! I was so excited for 2016, purely to turn 26 (my favourite number). Whilst it hasn’t been my greatest year, I fully plan on ringing in 2017 with a glass of fizz, friends, family and plenty dancing.

However you plan on celebrating the end of 2016, I hope it is a great end to your year, and fills you with positivity for the year to come!
