Curly Hair for Autumn: Embracing what nature gave

For the longest time, I have always seemed to style my hair straight during the colder months of the year.

This is largely due to the fact that having straight hair, means I will not run the risk of leaving the house with wet hair, freshly styled as I do when it’s curly. However, the more I think about this, the more I realise how silly it is to do that.

When my hair is curly, I do try to avoid any form of heat on it, but wanting to rely less on heat styling in general, I feel as though curly hair for the colder months may just be the way forward. I really enjoy leaving my hair in its natural state for as long as possible, as it does make me far more aware of the care going into it. I have a bad habit of leaving it straight and just continuing to use my trusted GHD’s until I really can’t straighten it any further.

This Autumn and Winter I really want to change that. I have been really enjoying trying out new products and brands to help me get my curls back to their best. Shea moisture for me has been a godsend, particularly my all time favourite the Coconut and Hibiscus hair smoothie. If you buy one styling product for your hair I suggest this one! However, I have also wanted to try out a few others, to really get to know what works for my hair, and what benefits it.

Not only will this enhance the look of my hair, but with better hair health, comes easier styling whether I decide to do curly or straight. Recently I discovered a brand that really is quite popular for curly and wavy haired girls like myself. Briogeo offer a gorgeous range of hair products, that really aim to produce the best results in taking care of your hair. I have slowly been trying out a few products and so far really loving the results.

Co-wash is something I have read countless articles and blog posts on, and watched many a YouTube video, and yet still never tried it. When I saw that Briogeo offer their own co-wash, I knew I had to try it out. I haven’t been using this long enough yet to write a full post, but trust me it will be coming soon. What I will say, is that Briogeo are a brand I am really excited to try. They are sulphate free, cruelty free and tailored to hair like mine. If the results on my hair are half as beautiful as their packaging I will be a happy lady.

[If one young girl were to see a little bit of themselves from a blog post, or a YouTube video of mine, that would make me so happy.]

I know I will always have times when I wear my hair straight, I enjoy how it looks, and variety is the spice of life after all. But making a choice to wear my hair natural, is not only for the benefit of my hair health, but I also want to represent to others and particularly young women, that their natural hair is a beautiful thing. Growing up I didn’t see a ton of girls with my type of hair, except Tia and Tamera and a few others. I loved that they reminded me of myself, and I was in awe of them.

If one young girl were to see a little bit of themselves from a blog post, or a YouTube video of mine, that would make me so happy. So this autumn, for the first time in a long time, I think the majority of it I will be sticking with my ever so slightly neglected curls!

What will you be doing this Autumn to change-up your look?
